Friendship

I got an email this morning which upset me, from someone I liked and who I thought I was beginning to get on with again, after a long silence.  No matter who.  It was painful, but it has made me realise something.  I don't need that person to like me.  In the past, it mattered much more that they pushed me away, because I didn't have many friends, and I was too willing to take myself at their estimation.

But now I know that there are a whole bunch of people out there who like me, some of whom even love me, and if this  person doesn't it does not mean that there is something wrong with me. I might not be perfect, but I'm an OK person to have as a friend.

And a lovely warm conversation with one of those dear friends, and some IM chats with several others, have made me feel that this morning's email is just not worth being upset about.

Thank you, friends.
